The Glass Pingle
The inspiration for all of Fleur Oakes (The Glass Pingle) work comes from traditional techniques in antique and vintage couture, embroidery, beading and lace making. Currently her work draws on themes such as Victorian memento jewellery and the domestic embroideries of the 1930's. Inspiration has also come from baroque textiles and theatre. Using raised techniques known as stumpwork Fleur is developing a range of buttons which are as elablorate as those found on court and ceremonial dress.
The buttons and haberdashery have developed from both her corset work and her collection of antique trimmings. It is these that are drawn on constantly to create the embroidered buttons and handcut trimmings which form the the Glass Pingle's 'handmadedashery' range.
Any one of these buttons would make an exquisite adornment to a much loved garment.' |
