ABOUT THE HOOKS
Each one of the crochet hooks is handcrafted from local or exotic woods in Furls' small studio in Austin, TX. After being carefully designed to maintain beautiful proportions between the teardrop body and the classic bead-shoulder-cove ornamentation on the tail, they are finished organically and to a silky smoothness that feels wonderful in the hand. NOTE: Despite the strength of most woods, these crochet hooks can be carved very thin and, therefore, require special care so as not to break the hook. We suggest investing in a nice glass jar to keep your Furls' hooks safe.
ERGONOMIC
All of the crochet hooks are handcarved to fit comfortably into the palm of your hand. Conventional crochet hooks have thin bodies which make them easy to make, but can cause hand and wrist tension as the ligaments, muscles, and bones in your hand overextended to hold them. Furls' crochet hooks have teardrop bodies so that the main muscles groups in your hands can easily grasp them without strain. Also, the tapering ornamentations at the end of each Furls crochet hook provide subtle yet comfortable rests for the pinky and ring finger, which are often "left hanging" with conventional crochet hooks.
ORGANIC
Furls is devoted to providing the safest crochet hooks possible. They never use any dyes, preservatives or chemical finishes on their hooks. After being sanded to a satiny smoothness, the hooks are finished with a protective layer of organic soybean wax so they are hand and baby-safe. This organic finish makes caring for your hook very easy; a generous application of olive or any vegetable oil followed by a good rub with a cloth will keep the hook beautiful for years.
SUSTAINABLE
FURLS understand that their crochet hooks are made of some of the most beautiful woods, and that these are becoming scarce as resources. So, in their dedication to the environment, they donate a portion of their sales to protect and reforest tropical rainforests. For every hook that is purchased, one tree is planted, creating a positive resource cycle. |
