About the teacher:
Taught by Sophie Scott.
Sophie grew up with pens, paintbrushes, sewing or knitting needles always close to hand, and believes being able to make and tinker with things is one of life's greatest joys. So she moved to London to study Design at Goldsmiths and learn to do this in a more grown up way.
After experimenting with everything from ceramics to metal work she decided to return to knitting, something she'd been doing all her life, and became part of the team at Loop.
As well as guiding knitters through their stitches, she also is responsible for Loops' window display. For Sophie, knitting is closely linked to her family. She's inherited her mother's love of colour and the patience of both her grandmothers, all of whom taught her to knit. Even her father rescued an early project or two with his methodical manner. "Knitting for me is a practical art form, and it allows to you create something to remedy the disposable culture that at times seems to dominate society. Plus, when you learn how to make something, you understand how it works, which means you can fix it. This combination means a useful and beautiful craft which makes me very happy indeed"
