This class is designed specifcally for knitters who want to learn to knit by throwing or picking the yarn with their left-hand. Continental knitting (or picking as it is sometimes known) is usually much faster with smaller, more effcient movements than the more typical English style (also known as throwing).
Saturday November 4th
A workshop of 3 hours (£45*)
This class is for you if, you already knit but one of the following is true:
The repetitive motions of English knitting cause hand fatigue
You would you like to be a faster knitter
You would like to be a looser knitter
You want to work fair isle (or stranded) knitting quickly
A number of different holding and tensioning methods will be demonstrated for knit and purl stitches.
Ideally students will complete all the knitting WIPs they have on the go and come to the class, leaving their old English habits behind. Please bring along suitable needles for dk or thicker yarn to practice.
Taught by Juju Vail.
Juju studied fashion design in Canada and ran a knitwear business that sold hand knits across North America. An MA in textile design brought her to London over twenty years ago.
She is a busy designer with her finger in lots of pies, (yum, pie!); writing craft books on many subjects. She loves to research and explore new techniques, and make swatches. Juju and Susan Cropper (owner of Loop) collaborated on the pattern book, Juju’s Loops reflecting the Loop knitted style. Juju has also written other popular Loop patterns such as the Pop Spots and Charm shawls.
Juju hosts the Thursday knit nights at Loop, writes knitting patterns, blogs, teaches, photographs, paints and draws.
Juju is a Continental-knitting picker and believes herself to be the world’s fastest knitter but hasn’t proved it... yet.
* Loop will provide yarn, please bring suitable needles for DK yarn to practise.
