A new Estonian gem!
Ornamented Journey by Kristi Jõeste and Kristiina Ehin
Hardback. 120 pages.
This book offers a wealth of inspiration to knitters as well as lovers of the written word.
In the lovely Estonian town of Viljandi there lives a young artist by the name of Kristi Jõeste, who has knitted hundreds of pairs of exquisite gloves.
We now invite you to share in her work.
Every knitter and every glove has a story to tell. Museums have preserved many wondrous old gloves but very few stories. Saara Publishers were captivated by the idea of offering the beauty of the written word alongside the beauty of handicraft. Kristi Jõeste invited her childhood friend, the well-known Estonian writer Kristiina Ehin, to write the stories.
Ornamented Journey presents a look into the world of knitted Estonian gloves. In the area of handicraft literature this is a unique book, where two art forms are woven together. Both are founded on a deep perception of Estonian folk tradition.
The last part of the book teaches how to knit in Kristi’s way.
Texts by Kristiina Ehin have been translated by Ilmar Lehtpere, who has received several international awards for his translations. Knitting instructions have been translated by Maret Tamjärv together with Nancy Bush |
