In 2004, the Boyles family bought a derelict farm on the Surrey, Hampshire borders is the South of England. Years of intensive arable farming had impacted the flora and fauna native to the farm.
With a love of conservation and a passion for textiles it was only a matter of time before Emma and Neil reintroduced sheep into the landscape and The Little Grey Sheep was born.
Sticka boasts 10 contemporary knits utilising The Little Grey Sheep Hampshire 4ply. Each fleece is carefully hand sorted on the farm before being washed and spun in Yorkshire, finally wending its way back home to be lovingly hand dyed by Emma. Lofty with a silly touch once blocked, with the added advantage that the Hampshire yarn is resistant to pilling.
The patterns have charted and written instructions in up to 7 sizes, and each is named after one of the historic fields on the farm. Susie the shepherdess is introduced as well as the story of shearing and this ancient farmstead. Sticka is not just a pattern book, but the story of farming for fibre in a sustainable way
