Square Haapsalu Shawls - Linda Elgas
Linda Elgas and Siiri Reimann
This book is English and Estonian
A Haapsalu shawl or Haapsalu scarf is a knitted lace shawl that originated in the seaside resort town of Haapsalu, Estonia during the early 19th century.
The history of Haapsalu lace knitting dates back to a few centuries ago.
A traditional Haapsalu shawl is a rectangle measuring 100x100 to 150 x150 cm square. It consists of three parts - a center section, a border and an edge, which is knit separately and sewn to the border. The master artisans knit the shawls so fine that they can be pulled through a ladies' wedding ring.
The Fourth Book of the Lace Masters Series brings you the beautiful Shawls of Linda Elgas by the first Lady of Haapsalu.
The book has 20 square shawls with a full pattern. In addition, there is a separate table of contents for the lace edges , according to which Linda's shawls can also be used to knit scarves or other items. The book also contains a comprehensive tutorial by Siiri Reimann on knitting square Haapsalu shawls.
20 large, unique shawls from the collection of Linda Elgas, one of Haapsalu's lace-makers and a great designer.
