Kantha is a beautiful stitch technique from the Indian subcontinent with a rich heritage rooted in storytelling and upcycling. Used fabrics are layered, embroidered, and repurposed into textiles for function or display.
Under award-winning artist Ekta Kaul’s guidance you will learn to use Kantha stitches to create pattern and texture.
Ekta will introduce you to a dictionary of kantha stitches through a gentle step-by-step demonstration and share the cultural context of Kantha textiles in Bengal.
She will also share illustrative samples from key publications and her personal textile collection. By the end of the workshop, you will have the skills and confidence to develop your Kantha project further and a deeper understanding of this gentle, mindful craft.Materials
